Ice & Ideals: The Miracle On Ice and Politics in Sport
Target Grades: 9th – 12th
Virtual Field Trip Total Length: 45-60 minutes
In a pre-recorded format, students will follow Museum Educators through time as they examine politics of the Cold War, international relations between the USA and the USSR, and outside influences that bleed into the “neutral” Olympic Games. The Virtual Field Trip will introduce students to a variety of primary source documents and ask for their evaluations. Student worksheets, supplemental resources, and a Teacher Guide are provided.
To best contextualize the game and how Americans were feeling, it is recommended to take students through “A Crisis of Confidence” lesson plan prior to the Virtual Field Trip. The lesson plan and all resources for it can be found on our website, or at this link.
